Short text is a single line, good for names, job titles and short answers. Long text grows as people type, for feedback and stories. In long text, Shift Enter starts a new line and Enter moves on.

Settings

  • Placeholder: the hint shown in the empty field. It starts as “Type your answer here…”.
  • Min characters and Max characters: up to 5,000 for short text and 20,000 for long text.
  • Validation (short text only): Letters only, Digits only, Letters and numbers, or a Custom pattern with your own error message. See validation.
  • Filo follow-up (Pro): when an answer is vague, Filo asks one short follow-up on the same screen. See Filo follow-ups.

Long text questions start as optional; short text starts as required.

In Results

Text answers are listed in the Summary and searchable in Responses. On Pro, Smart Insights groups them into themes with sentiment.
